Bonaire is an ideal kite surfing destination. A constant wind blows for 300 days a year. The best months are from February to August.
Waving palms, 30 degrees, an azure blue sea and a cooling breeze; Bonbini on Bonaire! Bonaire is one of the best places in the world for kite surfing. The wind on Bonaire is almost always at least 15 knots. Moreover, the crystal clear water is always 28 ° C. So leave your long John at home ;-).
Due to the favorable wind direction of the trade, it is very safe for both beginners and advanced kiters.
The wind on Bonaire always comes from the northeast. This means that there is an offshore wind at the kite surfing spots. In the Netherlands kite surfing with offshore wind is not done, on Bonaire it is not a problem and in case of emergency there is a rescue service.
Kitebeach (Atlantis)
A flat water spot, ideal for the novice kite surfer and the freestyler. There is a narrow corridor for going up and down the water. Officially it is forbidden to surf here, but an exception has been made to get on the water with your kite. Completely legal!
Pinkbeach
A bit further north than Kitebeach is Pinkbeach. this kite spot has a difficult up and down, due to the sharp coral. Not really for a beginner. The wind is usually a bit louder here.
Klein Bonaire
You can also kite between Bonaire and Klein Bonaire. It is quite flaky here, therefore no beginner’s spot.
Kite surfing in the Caribbean is a special experience. You run the chance to encounter a turtle or a dolphin in the water. After kiting, you can also relax with fellow kite surfers with a drink on the beach at the Kite Bus. There are two kite schools on Atlantis beach and equipment can be rented locally.
