Kitesurfing in Winter

Kitesurfing in the winter, why not? We do kite surfing all year round. Low temperatures and snow, a real kiter goes on the water!

You can dress against the cold!

When the leaves of the trees start to fall and the days get shorter again. Then you know, it’s going to be Winter. And therefore also colder. But does that allow us to be driven away from the water? I do not think so. Especially in the Winter when it is quiet on the beaches and on the sea, it is wonderful kite surfing.

All Quiet

The beaches in the Netherlands are often nice and quiet in the winter. There are no bathers and whining children who get in the way. At most a lost walker, who often likes to see us busy in the water.

It is also a lot quieter on the water than in the summer. Many kite surfers are nice weather surfers and cannot be found at sea on the IJsselmeer in the Winter.

So it’s time to go to the coast and pump up your kite. Because enjoying the waves with your kite and board together with your buddy, who wouldn’t want that?

Winter kitesurfing clothing

Okay if you go on the water in winter, you have to protect yourself well, because Hypothermia is lurking.

It is important that you wear a good wetsuit that protects you against cold water and cold wind. A 5.4 mm thick neoprene suit is recommended in winter. You can also put on a steamer or a dry suit. Under your wetsuit you can put on a lycra and possibly a windstopper over your suit. Read our blog: Winter kitesurf tips .

If you are well packed, you pump up your kite, then your body becomes warm. Adjust the straps of your board so that you can easily put on the board with your shoes. If necessary, run back and forth for a little while. Go kiteboarding , enjoy the peace, the cold and the wind.
