This tight kitespot on Schouwen-Duiveland on the Oosterschelde is located between 2 breakwaters at the beach Zuidbout. There are two diving spots on the other side of the breakwaters. The beach is small and even smaller at high tide. Watch out for oysters (which are sharp) and the fairway. All in all, no spot for beginners.
Still have time left after kiting? Then visit the Flood Museum (Watersnood Museum) which is 1.5 kilometers away.
Here the history of the flood in the night of January 31 and morning of February 1, 1953 is described. More than 1.800 people lose their lives and 165.00 hectares of land are submerged if the dikes break in the event of a storm tide combined with spring tides.
This should never happen again and that is why a Delta Plan is being put into operation. A gigantic project in which 8 dams are constructed between the islands and four storm surge barriers. The storm surge barrier of the Oosterschelde is the largest in the world. Do you want to go in there?
