Interview with the unknown kitesurfer: Marion van Os

Interview with Marion van Os, the unknown kitesurfer

In this section we interview an unknown kitesurfer, wherever in the world. This week it’s Marion van Os from Huizen, the Netherlands!

1. Where are you from?

I live in Huizen, near the Gooimeer (lake) in North Holland.

2. How unknown are you?

Fairly unknown.

3. How did you get involved with kite surfing?

I have always sailed and winded until I turned 25. Kitesurfing seemed too difficult for me to learn at a later age, until a girlfriend told me she was going to follow kitesurfing lessons. I  went along. She stopped after 2 lessons and I continued, bought my own set and started practicing myself.

4. What do your parents think of this addiction?

It is really something for me!

5. What is your favorite kitesurfing spot? Why?

Still IJmuiderslag. I think it is a very nice beach, in addition it is a shame that you have to pay for parking in the Summer, so I usually go to Wijk De Bunker. No parking costs, not walking that far and certainly a nice spot with beautiful waves. If the wind is right, you can also make a small down-winder to Aloha and back wave riding.

6. What is the first thing you do after your kitesurfing session?

Preferably drink a special beer. An IPA or so and bar food: small, spherical croquettes hmmm

7. Where do you buy your kitegear and why?

I bought my new gear from an intermediary of LF or from Gerrit, around the corner (Laren). He is always willing to help me with my wishes and price 😉

Marketplace for the Wainmans, because they are unfortunately no longer available in the store. I would rather buy gear that is 1 or 2 years old, no more new ones, but if I had the money, definitely neue! That crackling cloth, I really enjoy it, and without having to take any risks.

8. What is your favorite beach bar? Why?

Pfff … I don’t really have a favorite, but a beach bar close to the spot, which also has a special beer is my favorite. At De Bunker there has been such a place since this summer, very tasty beer. Otherwise I go to Timbuktu or Aloha or at IJmuiderslag The Beach Inn or the new club at the Zuid Pier of Joris or whatever his name is. (That is Beachclub Makai, Marion ;-))

9. What do you do next to kite surfing?

Hmmm .. actually not much. When I am free and there is wind I can be found on the water and otherwise walking with Scot my labradoodle (mixed labrador / poodle). In  Winter I still want to do some mountain biking and the gym, but kitesurfing is really my leisure time.

10. What is your kitesurf guilty pleasure?

Hahahaha, peeing in my wetsuit secretly

🙈.

11. Who do you recommend for the next interview with the unknown kite surfer?

Ewout Sijl, was previously a korfball buddy. We went to Egypt last spring (with partners and kid) for kiting.
